This is a funny experience. I am blogging on location. That is possible bc my lovely wife got me a netbook for our anniversary. It’s not quite our anniversary yet, but I got my gift early so that I/we could take it on the interviewing expedition. She claims that in this digital age of blogging and email, a netbook is the 2009 answer to the traditional gift of paper for the 1st year of marriage. I don’t know about all that, but she’s cute.
Yesterday was the interview and last night was the interview dinner. All of it has been great. Toad loved the guys and enjoyed her day in the reading room and in conversation with everyone. She did a case conference for the residents at noon and she felt really good about how that went. Dinner was actually fun. The idea of an interviewing dinner being fun is a little hard to believe, but it was true. The guys were interesting and so were their wives. It was a group of people who I might actually chose to spend an evening with. That has to be a good sign. By the end of the evening, people were starting to say things like “When you guys get here we’ll have to do X” and “There are seven houses for sale in our neighborhood.” There’s no official offer, but things are looking good.
All of this is exciting. I’m trying to remain cautiously optimistic and not become totally married to the idea of this move, but that is requiring some effort. The job sounds like a great fit and this town has always been on our list. It’s never been at the top of the list, but the list is short.
We’re spending the next three days getting a better feel for the town. Looking at neighborhoods, trying to see what life might be life is this were our town.
