Blue in the Sky

A lesbian wife and mother tries her hand at something new. Surely there is a hat that fits out there somewhere!

A Deep Breath Saturday October 3, 2009

Filed under: Daily Life,Family — The Professor @ 9:07 pm

We had planned to be at Austin City Limits this weekend.  We had festival and plane tickets.  We  bought them about 10 months ago.  Our baby (who has yet to be born or in fact even conceived) has had other ideas.  The babymaking train required us to be in town on Thursday (the day we had planned to fly to Texas) and we decided to scrap the trip.  To sell the festival tickets on Ebay and hope we will use the plane tickets within the allotted time frame.

Once we made it through Thursday, we decided to use our Friday vacation days and drive to the in-laws.  I’m so glad we did.  I LOVE my in-laws!  I realize that this is not a popular or typical stance to have, but it’s mine.  They are great folks and I’m grateful for the time we have to spend together.  They welcomed us when we arrived late Friday afternoon with a fire in their outside fireplace, a glass of wine and good conversation.  Perfect.  A crisp fall evening outside by the fire catching up with people you care about.  Today Toad and her Dad went for a long bike ride and her Mom, Baker, Moka (their dog) and I went for a long walk in the woods.  We spent hours walking and talking outside and it felt like a deep breath.  Like an opportunity to slow down and tune in.  It felt like just what I needed.

Tonight we ate spaghetti and brownies and picked a date for the Thanksgiving celebration we will share with my parents and looked at pictures from our honeymoon.  Tonight I will go to bed feeling full.
